Newnham Campus – Home of the Sting.
Knights Road Record: 2-1-0
Sting Home Record: 2-0-1
With three games remaining in the 2015 OCAA regular season, the Niagara College women's soccer (3-2-2, 3rd Central) program has secured their first playoff berth since 2010. With George Brown's loss to Sheridan College, the Knights are now guaranteed to finish as a top four team in the ultra-competitive OCAA Central division.
Tuesday's matchup against the Seneca Sting (3-2-2, 4th Central) will go a long way in determining playoff standings. A victory over the 2014 CCAA bronze medal winners will inch the Knights closer to locking up their first ever home playoff game.
Heading into this showdown, the Knights bring with them a team record five-game unbeaten streak, dating back to their 1-0 road loss to Sheridan on September 19th. The Knights have outscored their opponents 13-6 with a record of 3-0-2 during the streak.
Unbeaten at home, the Sting come into this game on a two-game losing streak after being shut out by Sheridan and Humber in back-to-back road games. The Knights enter this game after earning a 1-1 draw against Sheridan at home. Alex Pasco (Niagara Falls) earned Niagara College female athlete of the week honours for scoring her third goal of the season and snapping a five-year scoreless streak against the Bruins.
On September 26th, these two programs played for the first time, culminating in a hard fought, back and forth, 3-3 draw. The Knights held a 3-2 lead late in the second half however the Sting tied the game in the 78th minute. Rebecca Morrison (Erin) scored the first goal for the Knights and Jackie Lawther (Beamsville) scored the other two.
