The Niagara College Knights Men's Basketball team dropped a 77-59 decision to their division rivals the Mohawk College Mountaineers on Wednesday night in Welland.
The Knights would jump out to a 5-0 lead, but after the Mountaineers answered with a 10-0 run of their own, they would take a lead that they would never relinquish.
In the fourth quarter, Mohawk outscored Niagara 25-10 to pull away for the victory.
Aminu Bello (Hamilton, ON) had a game-high 25 points for Mohawk. Tanner Lane (Guelph, ON) added 17 points (all coming in the first half) on 5-for-5 (100%) shooting from behind the arc.
Alex Campbell (Brampton, ON) had 21 points and 11 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season for Niagara.
The Knights shot an abysmal 28% (21-for-75) from the field, and 17.2% (5-for-29) from 3-point range.
"We missed a lot of makeable shots tonight," said head coach Steve Atkin. "The team could not play any worse, so I guess things can only get better," he added.
The Knights have now lost four straight and are 1-5 after the exam and holiday break. They are in 6th place in the OCAA West Region with an 8-6 record with four regular season games remaining.
They are back in action again this Sunday when they host the St. Clair College Saints (3-12). The Knights beat the Saints 76-59 in their first meeting on November 20 in Windsor. Game time on Sunday is 3:00pm
