Knights Tame Lions in 87-74 Win to Keep Win Streak Going

February 18, 2023...WELLAND, Ont. - The Niagara College men's basketball team kept their winning streak alive, making it four wins in a row with a convincing 87-74 victory against the Lambton Lions on Saturday afternoon at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

The men came out firing in their match-up against Lambton, shooting the 50% from the field and from beyond the arc to lead 32-21 going into the second the quarter. Niagara's efficient shooting continued in the second quarter while standing tall on the defensive end of the ball limiting Lambton to only 12 points in the second quarter and forcing 10 turnovers in the first half. Niagara went into the half-time break with a commanding 19-point lead 52-33.

Lambton didn't go down without a fight claiming the third quarter 27-19, yet still trailing the Knights by double digits 71-60. Lambton brought it close in the fourth quarter bringing the game within 7-points, but Niagara was able to make see things out after making some big shots and some defensive stops with the game finishing 87-74 in favour of the Knights. 

Niagara was led to victory by a stellar all-around performance from Delroy Grandison racking up 14 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block this afternoon, and Mark Taylor who scored an impressive 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks shooting 60% from the field in only 12 minutes played off the bench.

This afternoon prior to tip-off, Niagara college celebrated seniors day, honouring Grandison and Reggie Williams for their academic and athletic achievements during their time spent in the program, graduating from our Mechanical Techniques program and BTRF-Broadcasting.

With the win, the Knights have secured home court advantage for thier OCAA crossover game next Saturday. Time and opponent still to be determined.

The men's basketball team will look to extend their win streak to five games Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm when they take on the St. Clair Saints (13-3) in the final game of their regular season at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
