The Niagara College Women's Basketball Program kept themselves in the middle of the OCAA West Division playoff race after an impressive 82-56 win over the Sheridan Bruins. The win moves the Knights into the final playoff spot in the competitive OCAA West Division.
The Knights dominated from the opening tip-off, never trailing in the contest. The Knights were led offensively by reigning OCAA Women's Basketball Athlete of Week Kaitlyn McPherson.
The second-year center shot a red hot 50% from the floor, finishing with a game high 24 points. The five-foot-ten Welland native has been outstanding for the Knights this season averaging team highs in both points (12.6) and rebounds (9.2).
The Knights are riding a three-game winning streak and in recent weeks have drastically cut down their turnovers, a problem at times this season that has plagued the team. Against the Bruins, the Knights turned the ball over just 10 times.
Second-year forward Miranda Ross also had an outstanding game for the Niagara. The six-foot-one, St. Catharines native dominated the Bruins in rebounds throughout the contest. The Occupational and Physio-Therapy Assistant student recorded a season high 17 rebounds for the Knights while also contributing 20 points.
The Women's Basketball Program will return to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre on Monday, February 11th at 6:00pm when the team hosts the 12-2 Fanshawe falcons.
