Hamanova Joins Women's Volleyball Program

The Niagara College women's volleyball program bolstered its recruiting class on Friday with the addition of versatile libero/outside hitter Vaska Hamanova. Hamanova adds skill and experience to the Knights roster, having previously played with the MAC volleyball club and the Brock University Badgers.

"Vaska has the ability to play multiple positions on the court for us in years to come" said Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins. "She brings our program a high level of ball control that will improve our passing and defensive game. Vaska is also a vocal leader, with a strong serve, who is constantly driving to improve and become a better player."

Hamanova will graduate from Brock University this spring with a four year degree in Biology. She spent her first year at Brock competing as a member of the Badgers women's volleyball program before deciding to focus exclusively on academics.

"I chose Niagara because I felt like I wanted to continue my volleyball playing career, and the girls and the coaching staff welcomed me with open arms" said Hamanova. She continued "I am looking forward to the upcoming volleyball season, but I also want to further my studies in a graduate level business program and Niagara College is the perfect place to do it."

The five-foot-seven native of Mississauga will enroll in the Niagara College international business management graduate program beginning in September of 2014. Hamanova still has four years of athletic eligibility remaining.

An energetic and driven individual, Hamanova has established ambitious goals during her time in a Knights uniform and after her graduation. She has aspirations of owning and operating her own pharmaceutical business after the completion of her program.

"My program is important to me and so is excelling in all my classes.  As an older player I am looking to fill a leadership role both on and off the court. I am also looking to train hard and get into the best physical shape possible so I can improve my results and help the team be successful."
