Women's Volleyball Add Six-Foot Outside Hitter Linnea Davis

Women's Volleyball Add Six-Foot Outside Hitter Linnea Davis

Friday morning, the Niagara College women's volleyball program revealed the yet another piece of their 2014 recruiting puzzle with the announcement of the addition of outside hitter Linnea Davis.

"I chose Niagara College because atmosphere here is great. I feel like I can do really well here academically and athletically" said Davis. "The girls on the team and Coach Martins have been really welcoming, and I am so excited for this upcoming year. I have a good feeling about this season."

Since the 2012-13 season the Brampton, Ontario native has been competing in the OUA as member of the Brock University Badgers. Prior to beginning her post-secondary playing career, she played in the club system with the Peel Selects and Etobicoke Titans.

"Linnea is a physical athlete" said Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins. "She is gifted athletically, and when we move her into a new position, I truly believe she will flourish at the highest level."

Davis stands at six-foot and has a natural leaping ability that should translate well to the OCAA game. She added "our program goal is to win; And to do that I need to work really hard, and I need to push my teammates to work hard as well.  Everything comes down to hard work and good things come to those who put in the most effort."

Coach Martins continued, "With Linnea coming, she adds more size and physicality into our program. Her position change may take some adjustment, but with the amount of repetitions she puts in, and her ability to learn quickly, things should happen very easily."

A graduate of Mayfield Secondary School, Davis will enroll in the Niagara College sport management program. "I can't wait to get started in Sport Management. It's a really interesting program" said Davis. "I'm here to learn and get a diploma. My priorities are that school always comes first, and volleyball comes after."

The addition of Davis brings the Niagara College women's volleyball recruiting class to a total of six incoming student-athletes. The new Knights include outside hitters Lucy McLay (Stratford) and Michelle Walker (Ancaster), middle blocker Devon Lowes (Oakville), libero Vaska Hamonova (Mississauga), and setter Bailey Davis (Georgetown).

From the 2013-14 roster, the Knights will return OCAA All-Stars Alexandria Botelho (Stoney Creek) and Kayde Bailey (Burlington), and second-year players Samantha Bailey (Cambridge) and Maddi Morgan (Whitby).

When asked about the 2014 recruiting season Coach Martins commented "we have assembled a very talented and athletic group. We've added a lot of size and playing experience from strong club and university programs. We are now focusing on building and strengthening the team culture around our program."
