Bridget Atkinson – Women’s Basketball
Bridget Atkinson (Welland) of the women’s basketball program has been named Niagara College Female Athlete of the Week.
Atkinson was a force against the Knights opponent’s this past week, starting with a Thursday night trip to Humber to take on the OCAA West’s second place Humber Hawks. The Knights battled the Hawks tough, keeping the score close for a majority of the game thanks in part to an exceptional performance by Atkinson. The Welland, Ontario native had 23 points, five rebounds, six assists and 12 steals as she pickpocketed the Hawks’ players all game long.
After a 67-54 loss to the Hawks, the Knights travelled to Mississauga to take on the U of T Mississauga Eagles on Saturday for their second game in three days. The short rest didn’t slow the former Canadian Junior National team member down as she had another performance to remember.
In a 103-64 blowout and playing in just 25 minutes, Atkinson scored 24 points while also adding five rebounds, eight assists and another four steals. Her two game total for the week was 47 points, 10 rebounds, 14 assists and 16 steals.
With just two games remaining on the season, Atkinson and the Niagara Knights women’s basketball program will host the Conestoga Condors on Wednesday night at 6pm for their final home game of the season. After that, they will wrap up the regular season with a visit to Fanshawe to take on the Falcons at 6pm on Saturday, February 16th.
Keveshan Padachey – Men’s Basketball
Keveshan Padachey (Markham) of the men’s basketball program has been named Niagara College Male Athlete of the Week.
Playing in both of the Knights games against the Humber Hawks and the U of T Mississauga Eagles last week, Padachey showed his excellent scoring ability, helping his team in two solid games.
Against the Hawks on Thursday night, the Markham, Ontario native scored 17 points on 6-12 shooting, including three three-pointers, in the Knights 102-95 overtime loss. Padachey also converted on both of his free-throw attempts from the line and grabbed four rebounds in 26 minutes.
Fresh off of nearly handing the Hawks their first loss of the season, the Knights travelled to Mississauga to take on the UTM Eagles on Saturday night. The Knights’ sharpshooter was on fire from behind the line in his team’s 95-81 win, hitting six three-pointers en route to a 19 point performance. Padachey also added two rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes.
Padachey and the Niagara Knights men’s basketball program will conclude their season this week as they host the Conestoga Condors on Wednesday night at 8pm. Following that match, they will end their season with a trip to take on the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday at 8pm.
