Sheridan Wins OCAA Men's Soccer Bronze Medal

Sheridan Wins OCAA Men's Soccer Bronze Medal

For the third time in as many seasons the Sheridan Bruins are the OCAA men’s soccer Bronze Medalists. The Bruins defeated the Durham Lords 1-0 in the bronze medal game at the 2014 belairdirect OCAA men’s Soccer Championship being hosted by Niagara College in Welland.

The Bruins will compete as the host team in the 2014 CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship being held November 5-8 at Sheridan’s Trafalgar Campus.

High winds played havoc with both team’s offensive strategies, and the lone goal in the contest came off the foot of 2014 OCAA All-Star Molham Babouli (Mississauga) in the 12th minute.

The Bruins had the wind advantage in the second half, and despite being known for the league leading offense, the team flexed their defensive muscles, limiting the Lords to just one shot on goal in the game.

Earning player of the game honours for the Bruins was 2014 OCAA scoring champion David Velastegui (Quito), while forward Colin Selfridge (Whitby) was selected from Durham.

Despite the loss, Durham enjoyed an outstanding 2014 season. The team finished with a record on 5-2, and advanced to the OCAA Championship for the first time since 1999. Meanwhile the win gives the Sheridan men’s soccer team their fifth consecutive OCAA medal.
