RECAP: Men's Basketball 2-0 versus Cambrian on the Weekend

The Niagara College men's basketball kept their 2014-15 OCAA playoff hopes alive this weekend as the team defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield in a pair of games at the Welland campus athletic centre.

Saturday's 98-41 and Sunday's 74-46 victories moves the Knights to 5-9 on the season and sees the team trailing the Sheridan Bruins by just four points for the final OCAA West Division playoff spot.

"It feels good to get a few wins" said Niagara College men's basketball head coach Keith Vassell. "We have been in some very close games that did not go our way. So to come away with two victories is very important for our program."

Saturday's win saw the Knights paced by first year forward Delroya Grandison (Kingston, Jamaica). Grandison shot 13 of 16 in the game, finishing with 27 points, seven rebounds, and three steals in just 22 minutes of playing time.

Joining Grandison atop the stat sheet for Niagara was fourth-year forward Marako Lundy. Lundy, who rejoined the Knights at the mid-season break after rehabbing from an injury, finished with 20 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Also finishing in double digit scoring for the Knights were Tristian Bromfield (11) and Aaron Chapman (10).

Sunday saw the Knights use their entire bench, gaining valuable experience for several members of the young roster.

Twelve of the Knights 13 players dressed for the contest found the score sheet in the game. Leading the way were Chapman (11), Grandison (11), and Lundy (10) all finishing in double digits.

The Knights now sit in seventh place in the highly competitive OCAA West Division. The team has four games remaining, all of which fall against teams they are currently chasing in the race for the post-season.

Up next the team will host the upstart Redeemer Royals (9-5, 4th West) who are currently enjoying one of their best ever seasons. Tip-off is set for 8:00pm on Friday, February 6th at the Welland Athletic Centre.
