RECAP: Niagara earns upset road victory against Mohawk

The Niagara Knights men's basketball program (8-4, 4th OCAA West) earned a 96-88 upset victory over the top seeded Mohawk Mountaineers (9-2, 1st OCAA West) on Wednesday night in Hamilton.

It was a back and forth affair throughout as the matchup between the Knights and Mountaineers featured 15 lead changes throughout. The Knights drained 17 of the games' final 28 points through the final four minutes to close out the contest.

Head coach Keith Vassell was impressed the way his team battled from start to finish. "We played a hard fought game," said the coach, "I am very proud of the way we played."

Jordon McDonald (Mississauga) was one of four Knights who reached double digits for a balanced Knights team. McDonald shot nearly 65% from the floor to record a team-high 22 points. Delroy Grandison (Kingston, Jamaica) posted his first double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Marako Lundy (Nassau, Bahamas) added 16 points and Alex Elliott (Welland) contributed 10 points.

The Knights will now have a 10 day break before returning to the court for a weekend doubleheader against the Sault Cougars (4-5, 7th OCAA West). The Cougars will visit the Welland Campus Athletic Centre for games on Saturday, January 30th at 8:00 pm and Sunday, January 31st at 3:00 pm.
