Saints Defeat Women's Volleyball

The Niagara College women's volleyball program fell to 2-1 on the season after suffering a 3-1 loss to the visiting St. Clair Saints on Sunday, November 3rd. The set scores in the contest were 25-15, 28-26, 22-25, 26-24.

Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey martins commented "it was a tough match right from the get go. We started off slow and just couldn't seem to find our rhythm."

The talented Saints had a strong offseason of recruiting and the combination of Desiree Redding (Setter) and Rachel Rivers (Outside hitter) proved too much for the Knights on Sunday. Rivers finished the match with a game high, 26 offensive points.

The Knights battled back in the final three sets, but according to Coach Martins "were just missing that extra bit of energy and emotion needed to build any momentum."

Current OCAA Women's Volleyball athlete of the week Kayde Bailey continued her strong play. The second-year sport management student recorded 16 offensive points and added 11 digs.

In what was perhaps her breakout game in the early stages of the 2013-14 season, five-foot-nine outside hitter Chelsie McPherson (Fenwick) turned in a strong performance for the Knights. Coach Martins added "Chelsie day in and day out brings nothing but effort.  She plays 100 percent for every ball, she earned her spot on the court and we were very pleased with her tonight."

The local Notre Dame graduate is currently enrolled in her first year of the Niagara College nursing program. She finished the match with seven kills, two blocks, and 14 digs.

The Knights will have a few days off before travelling to Humber College on Thursday, November 7th to take on the powerhouse Hawks. First-serve is set for 6:00pm.
