Cody Smith and Tess Brown Named Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week - Cody Smith

Cody Smith of the Niagara College curling team has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. Smith skipped the Knights mixed curling team to an OCAA silver medal at the 2014 OCAA Curling Championships hosted by Sault College this weekend.

Smith is in his third year with the Knights curling team and is currently enrolled in the Niagara College business, sales and marketing program.

Smith was instrumental in helping the Knights to the silver medal, making several crucial decisions and shots to help lift the Knights to the OCAA finals. Smith played his best game during the Knights 7-6 semi-final victory over the Algonquin Thunder.

The Gravenhurst, Ontario native made an outstanding shot in ninth end (an extra end) of the semi-finals to seal the victory for the Knights.

Female Athlete of the Week - Tess Brown

Tess Brown of the Niagara College curling team has been selected as this week’s female athlete of the week. Brown, who plays the vice position for the Knights’ mixed curling entry, was instrumental in helping the team capture an OCAA silver medal this weekend.

The second-year Dental Hygienist student played her best game during the Knights dramatic 7-6 extra end victory over the Algonquin Thunder in the OCAA Championship semi-finals. Brown made a crucial double take out in the third end “that really changed the momentum of the game” said Knights head coach Scott Brown.

Brown is a native of Trent River, Ontario, and is a graduate of Campbellford District High School. The silver medal this weekend marks the second piece of OCAA hardware for Brown. Brown was also a member of the 2013 Knights women’s curling team that captured an OCAA gold medal.
