HAMILTON, ON: The Niagara College men's volleyball team (2-1) took to the road for an evening matchup with the Mohawk Mountaineers (2-2) Wednesday. Unfortunately, the game did not go the Knights' way as they lost 3-0 (set scores were 21-25, 19-25 and 22-25).
Just like the women's volleyball game prior, the Knights could not find their footing on the Mountaineers court. As the Knights would start to claw their way back into each set, the Mountaineers found a way to string a run of points together to put the set out of reach for the Knights. Riley Orr and Matthew Takacs combined for 16 points on the evening, with 4 and 7 kills respectively. Leiland Parenteau, the first-year setter out of Manitoba, contributed with 12 assists, 1 block and 1 dig.
Head coach for the Knights, Steve Stone, reflected on the match by saying "it's a tough loss to see, especially with how hard the guys fought throughout the game." Stone continued to say that "there were a couple of times that we have to be better with the ball in order to capitalize on some key scoring opportunities." Looking towards the upcoming match for the Knights on the weekend, Stone emphasized that "we (the team) just need to find a way to finish the play. Our defence gets to a lot of balls, giving us a chance to score on the offensive side – we just need to get those balls into the right spots to benefit from them."
The Knights will welcome the Fanshawe Falcons (2-2) to the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus as we celebrate our ReuKnighted alumni event on Saturday, November 2nd. It will be an all-day event with an afternoon full of basketball, the women's volleyball team taking to the court at 6:00pm and the men's volleyball team capping the night off for a scheduled 8:00pm start time. We hope to see all Knights fans in the crowd, cheering the team onto victory!
