Knights keep rolling

October 23, 2024

KITCHENER, ON: The Niagara College men's volleyball team (2-0) jumped onto the bus and took to the road to battle against the Conestoga Condors (0-2).  The Knights were triumphant, winning the match 3-1 (set scores were 25-18, 24-26, 25-10 and 26-24).

Knights fans witnessed a great back-and-forth match the entire evening as both teams were fighting hard each set.  After trading off wins over the first 2 sets, the Knights took a commanding 2-1 set lead, winning the 3rd set by an outstanding 15 points.  Coming into the 4th set, the Knights remained focused as points were traded throughout the entire set until the Knights finally took the final point, winning 26-24.  4th year Knight, Ashton Nieuwets, led the team with 20 points, 15 kills, 4 service aces, 3 digs, 1 block, 1 assist and a 50% hitting efficiency.  Guiding Niagara throughout the match was the 2nd year setter from Hamilton, Ontario, Matthew Perron, who contributed 28 assists, 3 digs, 2 service aces and 1 kill.

Steve Stone, head coach of the Niagara Knights began by stating that "the boys came ready to play and executed right out of the gate" when asked about the win.  "In the second set we got into a hole early and battled out of it but unfortunately couldn't finish the set," he explained as he continued to discuss the match, "but it's always fun winning tight games and I'm proud of the boys' response to end the fourth set."

The Knights will take the weekend to recoup as they get set to travel to take on the Mohawk Mountaineers (0-2) and host the Fanshawe Falcons (2-0) next week.  The Mountaineers will host the Knights on Wednesday, October 30th at 8pm at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.  A few days later, Niagara will host the Falcons at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus for a full day of festivities for ReuKnighted weekend – game time is scheduled for 8pm.
