Knights take the 3-set victory

January 18, 2025
WELLAND, ON: The Niagara Knights men's volleyball team (8-6) returned home for a 3-
game homestand over the next 7 days. The first of 3 games saw the Knights host the
Sheridan Bruins (3-11), winning in straight sets and providing the fans with a lot of
action to be excited about. Set scores were 25-20, 25-22 and 25-18.
This match was a battle of attrition for the Knights as they have been hit with an illness
that has ravaged the Knights' lineup. Leiland Parenteau, getting a 2nd straight start, got
everyone on the court involved right off the hop and posted 30 assists with 14 digs over
the 3-set victory. The 1-2 punch of Ashton Nieuwets and Wizdom Smith was on full
display as the pair combined for 34 points on 27 kills, 18 digs, 3 blocks and 4 service
aces. This match also saw the newest Knight, Nathan Gibbons from Hamilton, Ontario,
make his debut and help the team with 2 points, 1 assist, 1 dig and 1 block.
"This game was a testament to our depth," Steve Stone, head coach of the Knights,
began to explain. Stone continued by saying that "we were missing a lot of bodies in
this game, but guys stepped up and did a tremendous job with a shortened bench."
The Knights will continue their homestand with two more games next week being played
at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus. The Conestoga
Condors (10-5) visit on Wednesday, January 22nd for an 8pm game, where we will be
celebrating our graduating seniors prior to the match. A few days later, the Knights
welcome the St. Clair Saints (4-10) for another afternoon tilt at 3pm on Saturday,
January 25th . Come on out and cheer your Knights onto victory!
