ANCASTER, ON: On Wednesday, November 13th, the Niagara Knights men's volleyball team (4-3) travelled to take on the Redeemer Royals (2-5) in a match that went back-and-forth all evening. With a combined 201 points earned during the match, the Knights came out with a 3-2 victory (set scores were 25-21, 15-25, 25-22, 16-25 and 15-12).
Coming out of the lions den with a 2-0 record against the Redeemer Royals on the season, the Knights had to fight hard to escape triumphantly. Taking an early lead in the 1st set, the rest of the match would be a teeter-totter affair as teams traded set wins. When it came down to the 5th set, the Knights took an early lead that they would not relinquish, as they went on to win the game 3-2. Rowan Redekop, the 1st year middle from Surrey, British Columbia, controlled the middle of the court posting 10 points on 5 kills with 3 blocks, 2 digs and 2 service aces. Matthew Takacs, a member of the 2023-2024 OCAA West Division All-Rookie Team, was back in stride claiming 9 points of his own on 6 kills, adding in 2 service aces, 1 block and 1 dig.
Steve Stone, head coach of the Knights, raved about the intensity throughout the game. "That was easily the loudest game of volleyball I've been a part of" Stone proclaimed. "Good on the guys for staying engaged and working through the game. We had lots of guys contribute in this one and it's nice to come away with the victory in a tight game."
The Knights, currently ranked 4th in the OCAA West, will travel to Windsor this weekend to take on the 8th place St. Clair Saints (2-4), hoping to get back-to-back wins.
