KITCHENER, ON: The Niagara College women's volleyball team (2-0) travelled up the QEW to visit the Conestoga Condors (0-2) for an evening affair. The Knights came out victorious, winning the match 3-1 (set scores were 25-21, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-16).
Led by two veterans - 5th year Knight, Montanna Taylor, and 4th year Knight, Abbey Gooder – Niagara found themselves battling hard over the first two sets. By the time the 3rd set came around, the Knights were in cruise control as they found their footing and controlled the court. Taylor contributed to the win with 26 assists, 14 points, 10 digs, 4 service aces, 1 block and a 37.5% hitting efficiency while Gooder was right on her heels, stats wise, providing 14 points, 13 digs, 3 assists and 3 blocks of her own with a 21.2% hitting efficiency. Not to be outdone, Natalie Little (newcomer to the Knights), showed that teams will have to start game planning for her as she posted 11 kills, 13 points, 7 digs, 2 service aces and 2 assists during the game.
"I'm really happy with how the ladies played tonight," Steve Stone, head coach of the Knights boasted. Stone continued to say that "they were able to limit errors and keep the pressure on Conestoga – when they had the opportunity to put balls away, they capitalized."
The Knights will get some much-needed rest and preparation time as they get set to travel to take on the Mohawk Mountaineers (2-0) and host the Fanshawe Falcons (1-1) next week. The Mountaineers will host the Knights on Wednesday, October 30th at 6pm at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre. A few days later, Niagara will host the Falcons at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus for a full day of festivities for ReuKnighted weekend – game time is scheduled for 6pm.
