HAMILTON, ON: The Niagara College women's volleyball team (2-1) took on the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-0) in a spooky Halloween themed affair in Hamilton. The Knights, showing off their dance moves as the game got underway, could not come out with the victory as they dropped the match 3-1 (set scores were 21-25, 22-25, 25-23 and 17-25).
The Knights could not get anything going in this matchup as the Mountaineers found all the gaps. What appeared to be a back-and-forth game over the first two sets, ultimately saw the Knights missing on a few key plays. A great battle in the 3rd set appeared to have the Knights back on track as they looked for the reverse sweep, sadly that door was quickly closed as the Mountaineers finished off the game in the 4th set. Natalie Little once again led the Knights as she lit up the scoresheet with 18 points, 13 kills, 13 digs, 3 blocks and 2 service aces. Sam Cormier also contributed to the Knights' game putting up 11 points with 6 kills, 3 blocks, 2 digs and 2 service aces of her own.
"I feel like we just came out flat to start the game and couldn't catch up" Knights head coach, Steve Stone, began to discuss. "We played a well-prepared and good Mountaineers team tonight that had us on our heels from the start. We just have to take a collective breath as a team, focus on the positives from tonight and get ourselves ready for another game this weekend."
The Knights welcome the Fanshawe Falcons (1-3) to the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus on Saturday, November 2nd as they hope to get back into the win column. It will be an all-day affair as Niagara College celebrates their ReuKnighted alumni event with an afternoon full of basketball and the women's volleyball team taking to the court for a 6:00pm start time. We hope to see all Knights fans in the crowd, cheering the team onto victory!
