November 9th, 2024

Welland, ON: On Saturday, November 9th, the Niagara Knights women's volleyball team (4-2) suffered a tough loss against the Humber Hawks (7-0) on home turf at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre. The Knights were able to maintain a short lead against the Hawks in each set, before falling short to Humber who took a 3-0 win. The scores of each set were 25-18, 25-17, & 25-21. Although the Knights were unable to secure a win, their efforts were able to shine through as Montanna Taylor, a setter in her 5th year at Niagara College, offered 20 assists to her team. Abbey Gooder, a middle blocker in her 4th year, played an outstanding game as well with 11 kills & 1 block over the course of 3 sets. After the match, we spoke with Hannah Cowie, a 3rd-year middle blocker. At this time, she explained that playing smart was the key to Niagara's tactics. "We focused on putting the ball where the other team wasn't, creating unpredictable plays which worked
out really well for us". The Knights were able to read through the Hawk's weak spots, in order to keep the match tight. The Niagara Knights (4-2) are currently ranked 4th in the Western Division. They will be traveling to the Ancaster Athletic Center seeking a win against Redeemer (3-3), who is ranked 5th, on Wednesday, November 13th at 6:00pm EST.
