The Humber Hawks defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers 71-43 on Saturday night to capture their second straight OCAA championship. The Hawks now advance to the CCAA National Championship at St. Clair College from March 16-19.

The game opened with a low scoring, back and forth first quarter. Through the first Humber held a slim 13-11 lead over the Mountaineers. Midway through the second frame the Mountaineers JenJen Abella was hurt in a scary play the helped change the tide of the game. Although she returned to the game in the second half, the Hawks began to pull away and held an 11 point lead at the halftime break. It would be a tough task for the Mountaineers to fight back against the undefeated Humber squad.

The third quarter proved to be the most eventful in the game. Midway through the frame a scuffle resulted in two players and Mohawk's coach being ejected from the game for receiving his second technical foul of the contest. From there it was only a matter of time for Humber to maintain control and ride out the clock. 

Humber extended their lead by 7 to 52-34 at the end of the high scoring, chippy third. The Hawks would continue to control play in the fourth and cruise to the 71-43 victory, and their second consecutive championship.

Ceejay Nofuente, the OCAA player of the year, continued to prove why she was the province's best player. The high-scoring guard collected 18 points, five rebounds, six assists, and five steals in the contest. OCAA first-team all-star Llyandra Kerr also lived up to the billing scoring a double-double, with 14 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, winning player of the game honours for Humber. 

Shanien O'Neil was the Mohawk Mountaineers player of the game with 11 points and five rebounds. For the Mountaineers it was the third consecutive year they felt championship heartbreak. They lost to the same Humber Hawks in last year's final, and the Algonquin Thunder in the 2013-14 championship.

The Humber Hawks Ceejay Nofuente earned Tournament MVP honours. She won player of the game honours twice in the tournament, and was the Hawks leading scoring in the championship game.
