Falcons fly high against Vikings, advance to OCAA semi-final

The Fanshawe Falcons advanced to the OCAA semi-final with a 64-49 victory over the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons will now meet the defending champion Humber Hawks tomorrow evening at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. 

The Falcons jumped out to an early nine-point lead that they would not relinquish, finishing the first quarter up 17-8. They would carry their early momentum throughout the remainder of the game, winning two of the final three quarters to complete the 15 point victory.  

Laura Vere, an OCAA second-team all-star did it all for the Falcons in the victory. En route to garnering player of the game honours, she led her team in rebounds, assists and steals. Vere has 10 points and 10 assists to record a double-double in the contest, while also adding seven assists and seven rebounds to her totals. OCAA West Rookie of the Year Mikhaila Wright had a team high 11 points in the game. 

For St. Lawrence, second-team all-star Jackie Rodgerson led the way for the Vikings with 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Her play was enough to garner player of the game honours for the Vikings. Tyler Simon contributed seven points and seven assists for St. Lawrence.

The Falcons will take on Humber in the first semi-final tomorrow at 6:00pm. St. Lawrence will have to settle for a consolation semi-final appearance against the St. Clair Saints at 1:00pm. All the action will be broadcast live at goknights.ca/watchlive.
