Men's Soccer Wraps Up 2012 Season

The Niagara Knight's men's soccer team wrapped up the 2012 season this month finishing the year with a record of one win, five losses, and two draws. The team finished 7th in the in the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) West Division.

The 2012 roster was young and lacked collegiate playing experience, but showed moments of strong play, including a 2-1 October 9th victory over the Redeemer Royals, and a dramatic 5-5 draw with the regular season point leading, St. Clair Saints. These two outcomes provide strong optimism for the 2013 Knights who will return most of this year's roster.

Among the players eligible to return next season are recently named OCAA All-Stars Kyle Brooks and Joe D'Eramo. Brooks a 5-foot-11 mid-fielder from Milton, Ontario is in just his first year of eligibility, and scored a goal while playing in all 8 games for the Knights. While D'Eramo, a 6-foot-1 second year defender from St. Catharines, Ontario, played rock solid defence that is characteristic of a significantly more experienced player.

In his first season as the Knights' head coach, Frank DeChellis felt his players "got along, worked hard, supported each other and became friends away from soccer."  The strong team play developed over the course of this season, combined with needed in game experience for the team's first year players, positions the Knights to improve dramatically in the 2013 season.

The perennial powerhouse Humber Hawks captured their third straight OCAA men's soccer title earning 2-0 victory over the Seneca Sting. The OCAA bronze medal was won by the Sheridan Bruins who defeated St. Clair 4-2.
