Niagara College had its first ever top ten finish in varsity cross country. At the SLC Kingston Cross Country Invitational, Matthew Dean (Edmonton) finished the 8 kilometer race in 10th place with an outstanding time of 28:40.
Newly appointed team captain, Dorian Reid (Ottawa) led the field for the first kilometer of the race and finished second on the Knights squad, 35th overall.
In total, 64 athletes competed from 11 different colleges in Ontario. Kyle Maerz from Redeemer won the race with a time of 30:07.
With first race apprehensions gone, each Knight runner beat their final time from London. "The track in London was flat," said Dorian Reid. "Kingston had three or four hills which made the race that much more difficult and to see everyone beat their times was incredible. The improvement from race to race has been great and I hope we can continue this trend."
As a team, Niagara College finished 9th place with 136 points and trail Redeemer by only 6 points.
