March 29th, 2019...WELLAND, ONT.- The Niagara College Women's basketball program continues to add depth to their roster with another Eden High School recruit for the 2019-2020 season. Mackenzie Schroeder will join fellow Eden gradutate Beth DeBoer, who commited to the Knights earlier this month.

Schroeder, 5'9", comes to the Knights as a power forward with sights set on being a leader on and off the court this season. The former Eden Flyer says she hopes to establish herself as a leader and team player within the program.

"I'm excited to come in and support the basketball program's previous successes and contribute a strong effort to have a successful year." says Schroeder.

While focus on the court is important, Schroeder also knows the importance of tapping into the "student" component of being student-athlete. Hailing from St. Catharines Ontario, her descion to commit to Niagara College an easy one, and is enrolled in the college's Fitness and Health Promotion program at the Welland Campus.

"Off the court I hope to transition into the student role and focus on my studies." she says. " The job placement rate in my field of study is high but competitive, so keeping up on my school work as well as balancing conditioning and training will be a good test in my first year."

The Knights finished in the middle of the pack in the OCAA (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association) West Division with a 14-10 record this season, and went on to capture bronze at the OCAA Championships last month.

Head coach Mike Beccaria is pleased with the way his squad is shaping up for training camp in the fall with the addition of Schroeder.

"Mackenzie is a very versatile player with the ability to play multiple positions." says Baccaria. "Mac plays hard all the time and we are looking forward to having her in the line up next season."

While the fall season seems far off with exam season in session, Beccaria knows the summer will go by in the blink of an eye before it's time to hit the court again for training camp in September.
