RECAP: Knights feel the blues after home opener

The Niagara KNights women's basketball program (1-2, 5th OCAA West) dropped a 75-57 decision to the visiting Humber Hawks (2-0, 4th OCAA West) on Thursday night.

The Knights were unable to overcome a large first quarter deficit, falling behind 14-4 in the early going. The defending champion Humber Hawks, who haven't lost in over a year, showed their experience throughout the contest.

Head Coach Mike Beccaria gave full marks to the nation's number one ranked team for the victory. "Turnovers were really the story tonight," said Beccaria. "Full credit to Humber, they are a very good team, and haven't lost in over a year."

Courtney McPherson (Welland) led the way for Niagara, recording a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Brooke-Lyn Murdoch (Welland) also reached double digits, with 11 points on the evening.

Niagara will now welcome the Cambrian Golden Shield to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre next weekend for a weekend doubleheader. Tipoff on November 12th will be 6pm, followed by a noon tipoff on November 13th.
