WELLAND, Ont. - The top collegiate curlers in the province are set to compete at the 2023 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Curling Championships, hosted by Niagara College at the Welland Curling Club in Welland, Ont., beginning Thursday.
The bonspiel will consist of mixed doubles, men's and women's team competitions. Five men's teams are in contention, including the Fanshawe Falcons, Fleming Knights, Humber Hawks, Mohawk Mountaineers and Sault Cougars.
Five women's teams will also be at the championship, including Fanshawe, Fleming, Humber, the host Niagara Knights and Sault. Six mixed doubles teams will also be featured, including two pairs representing the Confederation Thunderhawks and Niagara. Humber and Mohawk will also have single duos competing.
Mohawk is the reigning OCAA champions in men's and mixed doubles, while Humber is the defending women's champion.
All teams will compete against one another in a single round robin. Draws 1 and 2 will take place Thursday, while Draws 3, 4 and 5 will take place Friday. The top four teams will advance to the medal rounds on Saturday with semi-finals, bronze and gold medal matches.
The top men's and women's teams will advance to the 2023 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association/Curling Canada College Championships taking place in Sudbury, Ont., from Mar. 15-19.
