On October 3rd, the Niagara College women's basketball program travelled to Oshawa to participate in the Big 8 Classic held by Durham College.
First game saw the Knights get off to a slow start against Seneca College, getting outscored 13-7 after the first quarter. Playing shorthanded with only eight players, the Knights rallied from behind for a big 56-38 win.
Second year forward Kianna Klauck (Port Colborne) paced the Knights with 9 rebounds, helping Niagara College win the rebound battle 42-34. Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines) dropped a game high 17 points including four buckets from beyond the arc, while Alyssa McCabe (Niagara Falls) kept her teammates involved by dishing out 6 assists.
The win over Seneca moved the Knights into a semi-final matchup against the St. Clair Saints. Niagara College trailed 36-27 at half but kept the game close. The second half saw the Knights go 2 for 20 from the floor, allowing the Saints to pull away with a final score of 57-35.
4th year student Miranda Ross (St. Catharines) narrowly missed a double-double, recording 9 points and 8 rebounds.
Next up for the women's basketball program is an exhibition game against the Durham Lords at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre on Thursday, October 9th. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm.
