The Niagara College women's basketball (2-1, 4th West) program will play host to the Fanshawe Falcons (3-0, 2nd West) on Friday, November 7th. Undefeated at home to begin the year, the Knights will be looking to keep that streak alive.
Niagara is coming off a big come from behind victory over St. Clair (1-2, 6th West) 72-64, led by second year guard Mary Ingribelli (St. Catharines) and her team high 15 points.
Fanshawe defeated Redeemer (0-2, 8th West) on November 1st and will be coming into Friday's matchup fresh and looking for another win. First year forward Natalie Warren led the Falcons with a team high 14 points and 6 rebounds against the Royals.
Sibling rivalry will be featured in this matchup as Anna (Niagara) and Rachel (Fanshawe) Jaworowicz will be competing against each other on the court. These siblings faced off last year and each sister came away with a win. Anna is a second year Sport Management major and her older sister Rachel is a third year Business Administration major.
During the game, the Niagara College department of athletics and recreation will be raising money and awareness in support of Veterans Affairs Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion Fonthill Branch #613. Any spectator that makes a donation will receive a game program and poppy. The 2013 event raised $527.00.
Player watch:
Courtney McPherson (#25 Niagara): Ranked 4th in the OCAA in rebounding, Courtney's inside presence should help keep the Knights in the game.
Stephanie Antwi (#12 Fanshawe): The 5'10 guard leads her team with 13.7 points per game and is a threat to score from anywhere on the court.
Tip-off is set for 6:00pm at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
