Knights Men’s Basketball End Regular Season On Winning and Injured Note

The Niagara College Knights Men's Basketball team defeated the Lambton College Lions 97-50 in their final 2011-2012 regular season game, but it may have come with a hefty price.

The Knights could find themselves without the services of Marako Lundy (Nassau, Bahamas), Alex Shah (St. Catharines, ON), and Antonio Carbone (Welland, ON), who were all injured in the victory over the Lions. The extent of their injuries will not be known until the weekend.

Six players reached double-digits in scoring for Niagara, who improved their record to 11-7, the same record they had last season.

Second-year guard Jimmy Bilenga (Hamilton, ON) had a game-high 25 points, including shooting 5-for-11 (45%) from behind the arc.

Darian Rowe (Vaughan, ON) had a strong game coming off the bench and contributing with 15 points. Alex Campbell (Brampton, ON) and Lundy each had 13 points, while Benjamin Owusu-Ansah (Mississauga, ON) and Matt Poirier (St. Catharines, ON) had 12 and 10 points respectively.

Niagara, who finished in 6th place in the OCAA West Region, will now travel to Barrie on Sunday to take on the Georgian College Grizzlies who finished in 3rd place in the OCAA East Region at 13-5.

The Knights head into the cross-over playoff game winners of three of their last four games, while Georgian won six of their last eight games to close out the regular season.

This will be the second meeting of the year between these two teams. Niagara beat the Grizzlies 97-71 in exhibition play at the St. Lawrence College Invitational Tournament back in October.

The winner of Sunday's game will advance to the OCAA Championships taking place at Algonquin College in Ottawa from March 1-3. They will face the Sheridan College Bruins (14-4, 2nd in OCAA West) in a quarter-finals game.

Game time on Sunday is 1pm at Georgian College in Barrie.
