Knights Men's Soccer Season Comes To An End

The Niagara College Knights Men's Soccer 2011 season came to an end on Wednesday night following a 5-2 loss to the no. 1 ranked Humber Hawks.

Niagara was hoping to finish up their season well against the division leading Humber Hawks on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Humber were looking to seal first place in the OCAA West division and remain undefeated and they capitalized in the first half scoring four times to jump ahead to a 4-0 lead.

They added one more in the second half before Niagara would answer back with a couple. Nick Hudson of Cambridge headed in a cross from Welland's Travis McGowan and with 10 minutes left, Ivan Ojvan of Thorold finished a set play as he put one off the cross bar and in.

"We got off to a bad start but we tried to keep our heads up high and we won the second half," said Head Coach Anthony Ventresca. "We scored two goals on Humber and and until then, they had only given up two goals in seven games," he added.

"We played hard right to the end. The result was not for a lack of effort,"  said Assistant Coach Mario Serianni.

The Knights Men's team finished the regular season with a record of 2-5-1, and also tied for 7th Place in the OCAA West Region and failed to qualify for the 2011 playoffs.
