Niagara College Knights Men's Soccer Team Fall To Saints On Sunday

The Niagara College Knights Men's Soccer team lost 7-2 to the St. Clair College Saints on Sunday.

The Knights were looking to earn a playoff spot in the OCAA, desperately needing a win.

Niagara quickly fell behind 2-0 in the first half of this slippery affair at the Welland Soccer Club. Mike Vitaterna of Niagara Falls got one back early in the second half but as the home side pressed for an equalizer, St. Clair notched a couple more to extend their lead.

Martin Mamic of St. Catharines would cut the lead in half at 4-2 but the visitors would score three late goals in last ten minutes to seal the game away.

"The score got away from us at the end," said Head Coach Anthony Ventresca. "For several moments in the game however, we looked like we were ready to take it back but it never materialized," he added.

Niagara's record falls to 2-4-1 with one game remaining in their 2011 season. They will take on the no. 1 ranked Humber College Hawks on Wednesday night at 8:00 pm at the Welland Soccer Club.
