Knights Women’s Basketball Team Fall To Bruins

The Niagara College Knights Women's Basketball team dropped a 78-66 decision to the Sheridan College Bruins on Saturday afternoon in Brampton.

The Bruins, who were looking to avenge an earlier season loss to the Knights (78-67 loss on November 30 in Welland), jumped out to a 26-11 first quarter lead and never looked back.

Sheridan's Nakia Arthur (Brampton, ON) had a game-high 32 points and shot 10-for-32 (31%) from the field and 8-for-12 (67%) from the free throw line. Shaylanda Saunders (East Preston, NS) added 21 points for the Bruins.

First-year center Miranda Ross (St. Catharines, ON) had a team-high 17 points for the Knights and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Bruins are in 3rd place in the OCAA West Region with a 10-4 record.

With the loss, the Knights record drops to 6-7 and puts them in a tie for 6th place in the OCAA West with the Mohawk College Mountaineers (6-9).

The Knights will face the Mountaineers on Wednesday, February 8 in a very pivotal match-up. On November 9, the Mountaineers came away with a 75-69 overtime win against the Knights in Hamilton.

Game time is 6:00pm at the new Athletic Centre, Welland Campus.
