NEWS: Koslowski, Berg recognized at OCAA Awards Banquet

On the eve of the opening day of the 2019 OCAA Women's Volleyball Provincial Championship, the participating teams from across the province met for the annual awards banquet to recognize and celebrate the league's most outstanding athletes from this season. The Niagara Knights women's volleyball program, who will be opening their tournament Friday night with an 8pm match with the St. Clair Saints, had two athletes that were recognized for their quality play this season.

Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton) was named a Second Team All-Star for her impressive fourth season in a Knights uniform, one that saw her break three Knights records over the course of the year. Koslowski finished the season as the Knights all-time leader in points, kills, and service aces. The Knights' captain finished the season in second place in the entire OCAA with 197 kills and came fifth with 3.9 points per set. She also finished second on the Knights with 132 digs.

Also being honoured was Knights rookie Madelyn Berg (St. Catharines) who took over the Libero duties in her rookie season and played exceptionally well. Berg finished her season with 162 digs which put her 11th among all players in the OCAA and was one of only 10 players to put up over 3.0 digs per set, finishing with 3.06. As a result, Berg was named to the OCAA West Division All-Rookie team.

The duo were parts of a larger puzzle that helped the Knights finish off a strong 10-8 season before defeating the Algonquin Thunder in the OCAA crossover match last Saturday. They will look to continue their stellar seasons when the Knights take on the St. Clair Saints in the opening round of the OCAA Provincial Championship on Friday night. The tournament is taking place at Cambrian College in Sudbury. For more information on the tournament, click here.
