WELLAND, ON: Your Niagara Knights (4-1-1) hosted the Conestoga Condors (3-2) for a Friday night matchup and were able to keep the visiting scoresheet clean, with a final score of 2-0.
The Knights have been dominating the OCAA competition this season. They hosted a powerful Condors team Friday evening and were able to play their style of soccer for 90 minutes. In the 19th minute of play, Knights' centre back and 2nd year defensive back, Mia DiPasquale, was able to find 2nd year forward, Lily Ryder open inside the box as she was able to slide the ball past the goalie and into the back of the net to make it a 1-0 game.
The Knights maintained their lead and were able to do all the right things defensively to stop the Condors offense. The Knights have a lot of experience on the pitch which eventually lead them to victory. In the 90th minute, 1st year and Niagara local, Siera Warkentin was able to find space outside the box and off a great pass from Lily Ryder, Warkentin was able to settle the ball and nail it past the goalie to finish the game with a 2-0 win.
The Knights couldn't have been more pleased with the win. "Tonight, both teams put on a spirited display of football. The game was fast, physical and skillful. I was proud of our team's intelligence and ability to move the ball." Rob Lalama, Knights head coach said after the game. The Knights continue to build and dominate in their OCAA conference and are working to get better everyday. "I believe were improving every game. This team is a joy to watch" Lalama admitted.
You can catch the Knights back in action as they travel to play the Redeemer Royals (3-1) on Wednesday, September 25th at 5pm.
