PREVIEW: Second Annual Grad Night set for Friday Night

PREVIEW: Second Annual Grad Night set for Friday Night

The Niagara College Department of Athletics and Recreation will be hosting its second annual ‘Knights Fall Sport Grad Night’ on Friday, January 16.  Niagara College will be honouring fall sport student-athlete graduates before the scheduled volleyball games against Redeemer University College, beginning at 6:00pm.

Members of the Niagara College golf, cross country, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer programs will be presented with framed and personalized individual photographs to recognize their academic success.

“Grad Night is the perfect opportunity to recognize our student-athletes’ academic success in front of the entire Niagara College Knights community,” said Niagara College director of athletics and recreation Matthew Davies.  “These individuals work hard both in the classroom and on the court, and Grad Night is a growing tradition that truly acknowledges their academic accomplishments.”

In addition to Grad Night, Niagara College will be honouring former Niagara College Knight Daniel Groenveld. The former men’s volleyball standout was named a CCAA All-Canadian and OCAA first-team all-star in 2013-14.  Daniel currently holds the Niagara College men’s volleyball single record with 275 points.  The matches against Redeemer will serve as the first Knights home game games played with his All-Canadian banner raised alongside Niagara College’s six other All-Canadians:  Shayne Petrusma (2012-13), Kaitlyn McKenna (2007-08), Justin Ross (2003-04), Blair Cudmore (1994-95), Tom Peat (1984-85), and Mark Nelson (1984-85). Groenveld’s family will be in attendance to receive a framed copy of his Niagara College All-Canadian banner.

Both ceremonies will take place immediately prior to the first serve of the 6:00 pm women’s volleyball game.
