Weavers Captures OCAA Golf Silver Medal

The OCAA Golf Championships produced Niagara College's first 2014 OCAA medal this week as Burlington native Lorelle Weavers captured an individual women's silver medal at the event. Weavers shot a combined 232 over three rounds to earn her first piece of OCAA hardware.

The 2014 golf season is her first in the OCAA, having spent the previous two years competing in the NCAA with Chicago State University. Weavers captured tournament championships at the Durham Invitational, Fanshawe Invitational, and Knights Fall Classic before capturing the OCAA silver.

The second place finish will see the first-year Professional Golf Management student compete at the CCAA National Championships from October 13-17 at the Club de golf Lorette in Loretteville Quebec, which sits just outside of Quebec City.

"Lorelle continued her run of top finishes at the OCAA" said Knights golf head coach Cameron Thin. "She played well and should be happy with her performance. I am looking forward to working with her over the next few days to get ready for the National Championship."

"We are very proud of Lorelle's accomplishments both this season and at the OCAA Championship" added Matthew Davies, Niagara College's director of athletics and recreation. "The opportunity to represent you school at a national championship is a fantastic experience, and we wish both coach Thin and Lorelle the best of luck in Quebec."

Weavers needed a women's individual tournament low round of 74 during the final round to finish in second place, overtaking Ashley Unrau (334) of St.Clair on third day. Defending OCAA Champion Adrienne D'alessio (222) captured her second straight gold medal at the event.
