Lorelle Weavers Wins Three Straight Golf Events

It's been a busy few days for the Niagara College golf program. The last 5 days has seen the Knights compete in three annual invitational events in preparation for the 2014 OCAA Championships being held at Wildfire Golf and Country Club in Peterborough, Ontario.

For the first time in three seasons, the Knights' golf program features competitors in both the male and female divisions.

On the men's side the Knights are represented by second year veterans Zach Bankuti (Brampton), Evan Littlefield (Thunder Bay), and Brody Gauthier (Cambridge). Joining the three veterans are newcomers Zachary Hallborg (Welland), Nicholas Schepens (London), and Cory Vaillancourt (Chelmsford). In the women's division the Knights are represented by Burlington native Lorelle Weavers.

The biggest story of the early stage of the 2014 golf season has been the outstanding play of Weavers. Weavers is a veteran of post-secondary competition, having spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons competing in the NCAA as a member of the Chicago State golf team.

Weavers has captured the individual women's championship at all three events the Knights have entered in 2014.

The first-year professional golf management student posted a 77 in extremely windy conditions at the Durham College Open on September 18th. Her 77 was just three strokes back of the low round of the tournament, and was 11 strokes better than women's second place finisher Casey Pond (88, Georgian).

The Knights returned to action just two days later at the Fanshawe Invitational at Forest City National Golf and Country Club. Weavers posted her competitive play career low round of 70. The performance was so dominant she finished 14 strokes ahead of the next closest female competitor, and five strokes ahead of the best men's individual score.

The Knights will have the next week to prepare for the OCAA Championships in Peterborough being hosted by Fleming College from September 29th-October 1st
