Knights Golf named Sport Niagara 'Team of the Year'

Thursday, February 16th saw the Niagara College golf team win "Team of the Year" at the 5th annual Niagara Sport Awards breakfast held at Club Roma in St. Catharines.

The Knights earned the accolade over two high school OFSSA Champions in the A.N. Myer Marauders football team and the Jean Vanier Lynx volleyball program.

"It's always an honour to have our athletes, coaches, and teams recognized for their commitment to sport in the Niagara Region," said Niagara College Director of Athletics and Recreation Matthew Davies. "We are very fortunate to have multiple nominees this year and we are incredibly proud to have our golf team win the Team of the Year award."

The Knights golf team captured the 2016 men's team CCAA and OCAA Championship. Additionally, Josiah Dixon won the men's OCAA and CCAA gold medals, while Lorelle Weavers captured the women's individual OCAA Championship. Both Weavers and Dixon were named CCAA All-Canadians for their performances.

The team consists of Josiah Dixon, Evan Littlefield, Logan Lammerant, Brett Shewchuck, Ben Kenel, and Lorelle Weavers. The team's coaching staff consists of head coach Cameron Thin, and assistant coach Adam Steinschifter.

Thin, and Knights men's soccer head coach Frank DeChellis were also a finalists in the Coach of the Year category, while Dixon was a finalist for Male Athlete of the Year.
