Knights family mourn the passing of former Director of Athletics Peter Rylander

It is with a heavy heart that the Niagara College Knights announce the passing of OCAA and CCAA Hall of Fame member Peter Rylander. A great friend to many across the Ontario and Canadian post-secondary athletics system, Peter passed away at Hospice Niagara - The Stabler Centre on June 1, 2018.

Peter served as the Director of Athletics at Niagara College for 27 years. During his time at the helm of the intercollegiate program, the Knights won 19 OCAA Championships, four CCAA Championships, and five ICHL Championships.

His distinguished resume includes coaching the Knights' golf, tennis, and basketball varsity programs. In his final three years with the Knights, he also guided the Touch Football team to three consecutive OCAA championships from 1993 to 1995.

He was honored by the OCAA with the Service Shield Award. As a member of the OCAA, he served on a number of committees including Treasurer (1973-75), President (1983-85), Past President (1985-87) and CCAA Secretary (1987-89). In 2003 he was inducted to the OCAA Hall of Fame, and in 2016 became a member of the CCAA hall of fame.

His dedication and enthusiasm for sport and the student-experience helped forge a reputation of excellence at Niagara College will continue on for years to come.
