Knights Volleyball and Basketball Programs Tally Up 4 Wins in Wednesday Night Road Games

November 17, 2022...WELLAND - All four Niagara Knights teams were on the road Wednesday evening with two teams looking to keep win streaks alive, while two more fought to break a losing skid.

Women's volleyball completed another 3-0 (30-28, 25-22, 25-23)sweep over the Mohawk Mountaineers, who were 4-0 heading into the match, to extend their winning streak to three and move to a 3-2 record. Niagara has yet to lose a set in their last three wins over Sheridan, Fanshawe and Mohawk.

The men's volleyball squad squared off against a 3-2 Mountaineers team looking to bounce back from a two game slide in their previous two matches against Fanshawe and Sheridan. Niagara made quick work of the Mountaineers, eventually taking the 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-18) win.

Head coach Steve Stone was pleased with his team's bounce back. "Really great response from the team, last night," said Stone. "The boys really brought engagement and energy from the first point on. Communication and leaning on each other was the recipe for success tonight, and we executed the game plan and made the appropriate adjustments when needed. Loved the vibe from the guys tonight and hope to carry that into this weekend's match with Redeemer."

Both volleyball teams will head to Redeemer this weekend for games at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.

Women's basketball also brought their three game losing streak to an end last night with a 63-57 win over the Conestoga Condors last night in Kitchener. Niagara has had a tough start to the season playing the three top OCAA teams in St. Clair, Lambton, and Fanshawe to start the season, making Wednesday night's win a big monkey off their back. The Knights will now travel to Redeemer Saturday night for a 6:00pm tip-off against the 2-3 Royals.

Men's basketball kept their win streak rolling last night at three games with a 87-85 win over Conestoga last night. Last night's tilt remained close through all four frames but it was Niagara prevailing with the big two point win. "This was a tough and very crucial win for us at this early point in the season," said head coach Phil Mosley. "We battled through some adversity early and stayed focused on our game plan and managed to finish possessions down the stretch. I am proud of our team's effort and resilience with this road win."

Niagara will look ahead to their battle with Redeemer Saturday night at 8:00pm in Ancaster.
