Men's Basketball Earns Big Win Over Visiting Mohawk Mountaineers

November 7, 2019...WELLAND - The Niagara Knights men's basketball team picked up their second win of the season to improve to 2-3 on the season with a 77-55 win over the visiting Mohawk Mountaineers.

The Knights got out to an early lead through the first quarter, leading the Mountaineers 18-6 before Mohawk hit a buzzer-beating jumper to head into the second quarter to trail by 10, 18-8.

Niagara gave themselves a cushy 21 point lead at the half and never looked back to cruise to a 77-55 win over the Mountaineers.

Leading the way for the Knights was veteran forward Jordan McDonald (5th year, Mississauga) with 24 points, 6 assists, and 11 rebounds. Kevin Cooper (Nassau, Bahamas) also had a solid game for the Knights, coming up with 15 points, 8 blocks and 15 rebounds, while Lequan Hylton (5th year, Mississauga) and Johnnie Richardson (3rd year, Niagara Falls) each chipped in 13 and 11 points respectively

"This was an outstanding team defensive performance, " said head coach Phil Mosely. "Once again, our veterans(Jordon, Lequan and Kevin) had solid games and controlled the tempo on both ends. If we can continue to defend like tonight, we will put ourselves in a position to be successful moving forward."

The Knights will take the weekend off before preparing for their next tilt Thursday night when the visiting Humber Hawks roll into town for an 8:00 P.M. tip-off. The Hawks currently sit winless this season.
