Falcons Take Flight After Big Third Quarter Effort to Edge Knights 87-84

November 30th 2019 - The Niagara College Men's basketball team played to an 84-97 loss to the red-hot Fanshawe Falcons (9-2) last night in London. The Falcons, now on an eight game win streak, now sit first in the OCAA West Division, while the Knights drop to 3-6 in the bottom half of the standings. 

All things pointed in the right direction for Niagara who ended the first quarter with a 27-15 lead. Fifth year guard Lequan Hylton (5th year, Mississauga) came up with a big second quarter for the visitors, draining 25 points, including seven triples, to maintain the Knights lead heading into the second half up 50-35.

Things got ugly for the Knights in the second half, with the Falcons clawing their way back into the game to outscore the Knights 36-14 and take over the lead to start the final frame 71-64. Both teams made it an exciting finish through the stretch of the fourth quarter, with Niagara outscoring Fanshawe 20-16 but it was the Falcons who came up big in that last 40 seconds to capture the 87-84 victory.

"We a tough game tonight in London as we continue to battle with playing consistently through four quarters," said head coach Phil Mosley.  "The positives we will take is that our compete level is very high and as a group we believe we will continue to learn and grow from these tough games."

Hylton finished the game with a season- high 29 points, while Jordan McDonald finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds.

The Knights will now break for the semester, returning to regular season action January 10th at home to the visiting Conestoga Condors.
