The Niagara College Knights men's volleyball team lost on Thursday night 3-0 to the Sheridan Bruins. Knights' Head Coach Nate Groenveld called the loss a "tough one" but felt the team could "take away some positives from the match."
The Knights lost a close first set 25-22. The differences being a few minor defensive mistakes that ended up giving Sheridan the set. The 2nd and 3rd sets saw the Bruins jump out to large leads, but Groenveld felt the Knights showed that they could "battle from 7 or 8 points down and come back in a set."
Moving forward, Groenveld feels his Knights need to "realize that we can be comfortable and patient enough to play point for point with the teams in the OCAA West. Then we need to steal a couple of key points to finish out a set."
The Knights were led by current Male Athlete of the Week Shayne Petrusma. The 6-foot-6 outside hitter and Paramedic student recorded 9 kills, 3 digs, and 2 service aces.
First year outside hitter Jeff Scott also had a strong game for the Knights finishing the contest with 6 kills, an ace, and a stuff block.
Groenveld feels that an off day on Friday, leading into a home game against visiting Conestoga should benefit the Knights. The Conestoga Condors visit the Knights on Saturday, November 10th at 4:00pm at the Welland campus athletic centre. All knights home games feature free admission.
