Ontario's eight best Men's Volleyball Programs will travel to Sheridan College in Oakville on Thursday, February 21st when the 2013 OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship kicks off. The participating teams include the Algonquin Thunder (17-3), Durham Lords (17-3), Niagara Knights (14-4), Redeemer Royals (14-4), Humber Hawks (13-5), Nipissing Lakers (12-6), Sheridan Bruins (11-7) and Mohawk Mountaineers (9-9).
The Niagara College Knights will resume their quest for the Program's first OCAA Championship since 2003-04 at 3:00pm on Thursday, February 21st when they take on the Nipissing University Lakers.
The 2012-13 season has been strong for the Knights. The Knights captured their first OCAA West Division title since 2006-07 and are currently ranked #1 in the OCAA and #3 in the CCAA.
Niagara College Head Coach Nathan Groenveld commented that the Knights "are very excited. The OCAA West has been strong this season, and our schedule over the last six months has prepared us well. Every team is going to play hard, and whoever wins the Championship is going to have to play three fantastic matches."
The Knights' opening round matchup will see two of the OCAA's best square off. The Lakers entered 2012-13 as the CCAA's top-ranked team and sat atop the OCAA West standings for the first half of the season. The teams split their pair of matches this seaon. The Lakers won 3-0 in October, while the Knights earned a 3-2 victory in late January.
The winner of the OCAA Championship will participate in the 2013 Ironwood Wealth Management Group CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship hosted by Niagara College from March 7-9th.
