The Niagara College Men's Volleyball Program kicked on the second half of their season with an emphatic victory. The 7-4 Knights defeated the Conestoga Condors on Wednesday night three sets to none. The set scores for the contest were 25-23, 25-16, 25-15.
The win marks the Knights 11th victory in their last 12 outings, including a undefeated 5-0 January 5th tournament championship at the annualNiagara College Invitational.
Niagara College Men's Volleyball Program Head Coach Nathan Groenveld called the result "a total team effort and a great first win of 2013."
The Knights used the outing to give valuable in-game experience to a few of the Program's younger players.
First-year libero Eric Bonnay had a solid match for the Knights. Coach Groenveld called the six-foot-one Stoney Creek native's performance "fantastic. Eric really anchored us with his serve and defense."
Also having a strong game for the Knights was first-year outside hitter Bret Polfuss. The six-foot-two Police Foundations student played some of his best volleyball of the season in his hometown of Kitchener. Bonnay finished the game with seven kills, eight digs, and one service ace.
Coach Groenveld felt happy with the win but noted "we are now preparing for a showdown with Sheridan who are currently tied with us in the standings."
The CCAA's #14 ranked Knights will host the Sheridan Bruins on Saturday, January 12th at 3:00 pm in what Coach Groenveld feels "should be a great game."
