Nationally Ranked Falcons Soar over Knights, 94-48

November 30th, 2019 - The Niagara College Knights women's basketball team played to a 94-48 loss in London last night to the No. 8 nationally ranked Fanshawe Falcons (9-1). The Falcons currently sit atop the West Division standings with their only miss coming from a close tilt with Humber (7-0).

The Knights, now 1-7 heading into the semester break, didn't go down without a fight. Niagara came out strong in the first quarter to take the lead and give the home team a bit of a scare, ending the quarter down just one at 16-15.

From there, the Falcons took over with a big second quarter to outscore the Knights 30-9, ending the half with a cushy 46-24 lead.

After going on a 12-0 run to start the third, Fanshawe increased their lead to 70-33, pushing Niagara further away. Despite a good defensive effort from the Knights, The Falcons would go on to win 94-48.

Francine Smith (5th year, St. Catharines) and Mackenzie Schroeder (1st year, St. Catharines) lead the Knights in scoring with 11 points each, while Terin Hultink (1st year, Fenwick) contributed 8 points and 10 rebounds.

The Knights will now take a break from regular season action for Christmas, but will host Niagara County Community College in an exhibition match on Tuesday December 3rd at 6:00 p.m. The ladies will also play host to their own tournament January 2-3rd before returning to OCAA action January 10th 2020 to host Conestoga College.
