RECAP: Knights improve to 3-1 with straight set victory over Conestoga

The Niagara Knights women's volleyball program rebounded from their loss against Mohawk by defeating the Conestoga Condors (1-4, 8th OCAA West)  Thursday night in three straight sets (25-14, 25-13, 25-9). The victory improves the Knights to 3-1 on the season and puts them in sole possession of third place in the OCAA west division.

The Knights were led offensively by the third year outside hitter Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton, Ont.), who led the team with a match-high 12 kills. The Sherwood Secondary graduate has been outstanding for the Knights this season averaging 3.7 points per set, good enough for 8th best in the OCAA. The Knights will continue to rely on her offence presence throughout this season if the program hopes to build on their success from the year previous.

Another strong performance came from Knights' first year setter Melissa McFadden (Hannon, Ont.), who finished the match with an impressive 30 assists. The Knights hope that the Hannon, Ontario native will continue to develop her skills and be a key contributor in their rotation for years to come.

When asked about his program's performance against the Condors Thursday night, Knights' head coach Nathan Janzen was happy with how the team responded after their loss to Mohawk. "It was a bounce back victory, and I'm pleased the team got rewarded for their great week of practice. Our communication was great from the very first point and was consistent throughout. We look forward to building on this match next week in a bronze rematch versus a tough St Clair team."

The Knights are back in action Saturday, November 18th when they host the St. Clair Saints (2-1, 5th OCAA West) at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre in a rematch of last year's OCAA bronze medal match that saw the Knights take the match 3 sets to 2. Tip is scheduled for 1230pm.
