William Janetos and Lorelle Weavers Named SAC Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week – William Janetos, Men’s Soccer

St. Catharines native William Janetos has been named this week’s SAC athlete of the week. The Knights’ October 18th road playoff loss to the Algonquin Thunder served as Janetos’ last in a Knights uniform.

The fourth-year graduate of Dennis Morris has served as the Knights team captain for three seasons. He plays rock solid defense for the team, and has been a foundational piece of the Knights growth into one of the elite OCAA programs over the last three seasons

“Over the last two seasons, he has controlled center of our back four” said Niagara College men’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis. “Every game, his ‘all or nothing’ attitude sparks emotions in his teammates. On and off the field he has been a good influence on the players around him. Will has helped the younger players improve and he does that because he cares about the direction of the program.”

Janetos was the recipient of the 2013-14 Niagara College Knights outstanding leadership award. This is his second SAC athlete of the week selection in 2014.

Female Athlete of the Week – Lorelle Weavers, Golf

For the fourth time in 2014, Lorelle Weavers of the Niagara College golf team has been selected as the SAC Athlete of the Week. Weavers had an outstanding week, earning a CCAA All-Canadian selection and capturing the 2014 CCAA women’s individual National Championship.

Competing at the Club du golf Lorette just outside Quebec City, Weavers shot back-to-back rounds of 77 to win Niagara College’s seventh national championship. Weavers finished two strokes better than her nearest competitor.

“Lorelle represents everything I want our program to be. She is fierce in competition, kind and friendly to her fellow competitors, and she works hard and prepares well” said Niagara College golf coach Cameron Thin.

The events ends an outstanding 2014 season that saw her capture three individual tournament championships, an OCAA Silver Medal, a CCAA All-Canadian, a CCAA Championship all-star selection, and the 2014 PING CCAA National Championship.
