Lorelle Weavers and Jordi Amores Named Athletes of the Week

Female Athlete of the Week – Lorelle Weavers, Golf

Lorelle Weavers of the Niagara College women’s golf program has been selected as this week’s female athlete of the week. Last week saw Weavers capture the individual women’s tournament championships at both the Durham Invitational and Fanshawe Invitational events.

Weavers (Burlington, ON) is currently enrolled in her first year of the Niagara College professional golf management program. She is in her third-year of athletic eligibility, having spent the last two years competing as a member of the golf team at Chicago State University in the NCAA.

In the first two events of the OCAA golf season Weavers was dominant on the links. She shot a 77 at the Durham Invitational on September 18th, before shooting a career low 70 at the Fanshawe Invitational on September 20th.

Weavers’ 70 at Forest City Golf Club in London, proved to be five strokes better than any other competitor competing in either of the men’s or women’s divisions of the event.

Weavers and the rest of the Niagara College golf team will wrap up invitational play at the annual Knights Fall Classic on Monday, September 22nd. The team will then travel to OCAA Championships hosted by Trent University at the Wildfire Golf Club in Peterborough, Ontario on September 29th.

Male Athlete of the Week – Jordi Amores, Men’s Soccer

Jordi Amores of the Niagara College men’s soccer program has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. Amores played his best game of the season during the Knights’ impressive 3-2 home victory over the Fanshawe Falcons on September 20th.

The midfielder (St. Catharines, ON) who also competes as a member of Niagara United in the Canadian Soccer League is in his second year with the Knights’. He has notched one goal in five games, and serves as a key setup man for the Knights attack.

After the hard fought victory over Fanshawe, Knights head coach Frank DeChellis commented “Jordi has been solid in all 5 games for us this season. He elevates us up another level in terms of winning balls and decision making. He just loves to play this game and it shows. He is a pleasure to coach."

Up next for Amores and the rest of the Niagara College men’s soccer program is a critical two game swing trip this weekend against the St. Clair Saints and Lambton Lions.
