WELLAND, ON: The Niagara Knights women's basketball team (15-2) hosted their first
playoff game of the 2025 playoff season and won a decisive 101-30 match against the
8 th seed in the East, St. Lawrence Surge (2-13). This is the second year in a row that
Niagara has come up against St. Lawrence in the first round of the playoffs and the
second year in a row that they have come away with the win.
The Knights starters had a tough first few minutes, with the first whistle not happening
until 6 minutes into the 1 st quarter and a full lineup change coming for the Knights. The
starters would get to rest for the remainder of the 1 st quarter while the bench players
picked up a few minutes. Although playing their bench for most of the 1 st quarter, the
Knights were still able to hold the Surge to 6 points in the 1 st quarter and 8 points in the
2 nd quarter while scoring 26 and 18 in the 1 st and 2 nd quarters respectively.
Holding a 30-point lead at the halfway point, most of the Knights' bench saw minutes in
the 2 nd half while trying different plays and working on different defensive positions. The
30-0 run in the 4 th quarter really sealed the deal for the Knights and once they hit triple
digits on the scoreboard, they pulled back and cruised their way to victory.
This was very much a full team effort, as each one of the Knights players saw at least
10 minutes of floor time and scored at least 6 points, while 4 Knights scored in the
double digits. 4 th year Janee Harrison led the team with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 2
assists, and 2 steals. 2 nd year Destiny Paquin had a great game, finishing 2 points shy
of a double-double with 8 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. The
other 2 nd year who also goes by Destiny, Eremwon Destiny, posted a stat line of 8
points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
The Knights will have the long weekend to recoup and then start their preparation for
the quarter final match on route to the OCAA final four. The quarter final match is set
for next weekend when the Knights will host the Fanshawe Falcons at the Simplii
Financial Athletic Centre. Details for the game schedule are TBD and will be posted on
social media accounts early next week.
